The
Newcomers' and Neighbors' Club of Mt. Lebanon was founded in 1942. After WWII,
Pittsburgh’s major industries brought many new people to the Mt. Lebanon
area. The club was organized for the purpose of developing friends and
fellowship among new and existing residents to help them assimilate with
their new community. That goal remains the same today...
The
clubs activities are numerous and varied. They prosper by the active
participation of all our members. We encourage our members to join as
many interest groups as they wish and attend our fun and exciting social
events. Our monthly functions just to name a few are: Book Clubs,
Movie Night, Couples Night Out, Ladies Luncheons, Running, "Out and
about in Pittsburgh", Ladies Night Out, Kids Outings and Playgroups.
Generally, Special
Interest Groups have a standing meeting date each month.
The specific dates, times and locations are noted in our monthly
newsletter. Our monthly coffees for the 2006-2007 year are held the
second Wednesday of the month. We have both morning and evening coffees
throughout the year.
We view
Newcomers’ as a bridge that connects our newest members to each other
and to the community. We have a wonderful year planned with several
all-club events. Our biggest party of the year is our annual Wine
Tasting and Silent Auction, on February 24, 2007. This is an event
not to be missed. To kick off the new year we are having our first
annual Morning Social in the Park for all members and their
families, Saturday, September 16, 2006. We will also make this the
first year that we will reunite with former Newcomers’ via
our annual Wine Tasting and Auction for a terrific social event and
reunion. We will have a Halloween party this Fall and a Spring party in
May, 2007. Plan on marching with your children and canine companions in
the annual Mt. Lebanon Halloween Parade. You will receive details of
our social events and activities in our yearbook and monthly
newsletters.
We
encourage all members to attend as many events or participate in as many
activities as they wish. We encourage and are grateful for help in
planning with the social committee and interest groups. When comfortable
we invite you to become a leader of an activity, standing committee
chairperson or hold a position on our board of directors. Involvement
helps us feel connected and paves the way to friendship, good memories
and a sense of community that benefits all.
